Knights of Columbus Foreign Mission Fund for 35 Years
September 2018 will mark 35 years since the establishment of the Knights of Columbus Foreign Mission Fund (FMF) and a truly remarkable record of support to seminarians and religious in foreign missions, particularly India. And with many Indian priests now serving PEI Parishes, the modest aspirations of the project in 1983 have come full circle. The FMF began by helping the seminarians in India and now graduates of these same seminaries serve throughout the Diocese of Charlottetown.
In the past 35 years over 100 seminarians and 100 aspirants (religious sisters) have received support through to graduation and ordination. In 2018 the FMF is supporting 30 seminarians at three seminaries in India. This financial support covers all costs for education and room & board. The FMF provides this support from the earnings of a capital fund that has been built up over the past 35 years.
The FMF is administered by a Board of Knights of Columbus members from across PEI. Current President Ralph Dunn is delighted with the support of Brother Knights like the members shown above. Together with his executive and advisors, Fr. Augustine Ignasimuthu and Fr. Raju Chebattina, President Dunn has guided the FMF over the past several years to the point where 5 or 6 seminarians are ordained annually in India. On a recent visit to India, Bishop Richard Grecco visited one of the supported seminaries and met with recently ordained priests assisted by the FMF. Bishop Grecco was pleased to witness first hand the fruit borne from the efforts of the PEI Knights of Columbus.

Knights of Columbus Brunch in Morell
George Deviat, Grand Knight of the TP Butler Council sent in these photos and a report about the Brunch they held last weekend.
We had many families from the Holy Trinity Pastoral Unit and the local United Church.
Also attending were Knights from Souris and Vernon River.
All proceeds were donated to Special Olympics PEI.
Announcing a Special Couples Program — Feb 2-3, 2018
An exciting event for couples of all ages and stages, who want to build a healthier and happier relationship, takes place in Our Lady of Hope Retreat Centre overlooking New London Bay in Stanley Bridge the first weekend in February.
Sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Cornwall Council #10808, the program begins on Friday evening Feb. 2 at 6 pm with a candlelight dinner and an overnight stay in the Centre and continues the next morning Feb. 3 at 8:30 with Mass followed by breakfast and two engaging workshops with inspirational facilitators:
1) with Father John Molina entitled From This Day Forward, and
2) with Dr. Sinnika Dixon entitled The Gift of Time The Fabric of our Lives in the Five Cycles of Change .
The program concludes with lunch at 1 pm and a closing blessing for renewed spirits and commitments to deeper emotional connections and understandings.
Program packages —3 options
There are two options for those who cannot stay overnight, with costs per couple and gratuities included in all three packages, as follows:
- 1. Total program for 2 for all meals + accommodations — $185.00
- 2. Friday evening dinner + Saturday program for 2 — $110.00
- 3. Saturday program incl. meals for 2 — 8:30 — 2:00 pm — $75.00
Pre-registration is required
A $50 cash deposit to the Coordinator with full names and postal and email addresses and preferred option is required by Monday Jan. 22.

Knights Chorus Singing at the Andrew’s Senior Care Home

Thursday evening, November 30 was an evening we will never forget and an awesome way to experience just before Advent the true meaning and spirit of Christmas.
The Knights of Columbus Chorus sang a combination of traditional Celtic, old time singalong and holiday favorites.
In the words of Kathy Ready: “Thank you Knights Chorus. Last night was amazing! We would love to have you back”.
You will see Kathy in the photos along with our dear Brother Peter Embelton, who, in Kathy’s words, “is a real gentleman and leader, and an inspiration to us all here at Andrew’s Home”. No surprises there for all of us who know Peter. We are especially grateful to him for suggesting the concert venue earlier in the fall.
The Knights Chorus will be singing at the annual Christmas Concert at St. Anne’s in Emyvale, and the Mass on Christmas morning at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Cornwall.

Fund Raiser Breakfast at the Basilica
Our Lady of Fatima K of C Council #824 St. Dunstan’s Basilica held a Fundraiser Pancake Breakfast on 5 Nov 17 to raise money for our Family of Charities that we support.
It was very well attended. It was great to see many of our new Knights helping out.
It was also a pleasure to see so many families and young children enjoying breakfast
Tapestry for Kensington Knights
Carol Evans donated this colourful rendition of Our Lady of Guadalupe to Council #12465.
The original cloth print was purchased by Theresa Cousins and later quilted by Carol.
The tapestry will hang in the parish centre of St. Mary’s Holy Family Parish to be enjoyed by all who use the building.

TRUE WOMEN’S WELLNESS WILL CARE FOR BOTH MOTHER AND CHILD
Many of you will have heard the interview on CBC Compass News Nov 8 (you can watch online) concerning the data released by Health PEI on abortions performed at the Prince County Hospital in Summerside. This is part of the government funded Women´s Wellness Clinic. At PEI Right to LIFE we oppose this kind of health care in that the life of the child is not given the same care and dignity as the mother. True health care will support both mother AND child; true counselling will empower women with knowledege and services to enable her to continue her life goals AND protect the life of the child. Since CBC reporting did not mention this kind of support I was compelled to submit the following letter to the editors of all the PEI newspapers. I hope that this will be published as an opinion piece. Please look for it in your local papers and write your own letters to show that PEI does not accept this inferior type of health care.
TRUE WOMEN’S WELLNESS WILL CARE FOR BOTH MOTHER AND CHILD

In response to the CBC Nov 8 report “116 surgical abortions performed on P.E.I. so far this year, province says” (http://www.cbc.ca/…/prince-edwa…/pei-abortion-pill-1.4392981) that Health PEI will be expanding its women´s reproductive services I am compelled to make some comments.
Rachelle Pike, manager of the Women´s Wellness Program and Sexual Health Services with Health PEI, makes the audacious statement that this expansion is “exciting”. Exciting for whom? The woman in the midst of a life and death decision for her child? Health PEI statistics for abortions at the PCH state 116 deaths by surgical abortions, but is silent on how many medical abortions. Why the incomplete data? How many more pre-born children are we really talking about?
Where are the rest of the statistics which indicate a composite and thorough health care for women, which is supposed to be the purpose of the Women´s Wellness Program? How many women were counselled and kept their child? Was an ultrasound done to show the mother that her child has fingers, toes and a heartbeat at this stage or was it done just for the doctor to assess gestational age? How many women actually exercised their freedom of choice and chose LIFE? Withholding further data implies that the counselling services are not neutral but rather are pro-abortion.
Health PEI does not release the rest of the data on the services for STD, Menopausal discomfort, birth control, etc. So are we really talking about full-services or are we actually talking about mainly abortion service and that this is indeed a concerted effort to push the abortion of Island children on our population as part of an “exciting” agenda?
The figure of 146 women needing care for post-partum is the only other statistic reported. It is good that this is available. What about the women seeking post-abortive counselling? Are they too being served? Why is there no data? International statistics show women who have had abortions have an 81% higher risk of mental health problems compared to women who have not.
I fail to understand what is exciting about the loss of these 116 children, five full classes of Kindergarteners or, in 20 years, graduates of UPEI! This is devastating for 116 vulnerable Canadians, 232 mothers and fathers of those children not to mention a great loss for all of PEI not to have the presence of these future citizens. 116 abortions means 9 pre-born humans per month, who were decapitated, dismembered and disemboweled through surgical abortion. This is a massive violation to the inherent value of the human person.
Easier access to abortion is not about REproductive services this is about DEconstructive services. The repetitive use of the words “wellness” or “reproductive services” means abortion and is misleading and deceptive. This is also not about a woman´s right to abortion either. There exists no such right in Canadian law. A true Women´s Wellness Program would announce how many women they have enabled to choose life for their child, which IS a right of all humans.

Remembrance Day Preparations
George Deviat Grand Knight of the T.P. Butler Knights of Columbus Council in Morell Reports:
In spite of wind and cold – recently George Deviat and Leonard Deveaux T.P. Butler Council Morell Knights with young children placed Canadian Flags and Poppies on 36 Veterans graves at St. Theresa the Little Flower and St. Lawrence O’Toole Green Meadows.
We Pray for all who served our country and commend them to the kind mercy of the Lord.
