Funeral of Sir Knight Glen DesRoches

The largely attended funeral of Sir Knight Glen DesRoches was held from St. Simon & St. Jude Parish Church in Tignish on Thursday September 27th.

Sir Knight DesRoches lost his life when his fishing boat, The Kyla Anne sank in rough seas off North Cape on September 18th taking his life and that of his long-time fishing helper, Maurice (Moe) Getson.  Many brother knights from Rev. M.J. Rooney Council 7791 and neighbouring councils as well as the Honor Guard from Bishop A.B. MacEachern Assembly supported by other Island assemblies attended in a body.

Fr. Albin Arsenault reads the prayers of commendation, Fr. John Molina, Parish Priest, assists.

On behalf of Sir Knight Glen’s Council and Assembly Brothers and his family I wish to thank the many knights who attended the wake Prayer service at Rooney’s Funeral Home on Wednesday evening September 26th and/or attended the funeral.  In addition to 4th Degree Knights who formed the Honor Guard, the Prayer Service was attended by Sir Knights Les Standen (Former Master), Vernon Buote (Former Master), Philip Brown (Insurance agent), Peter Gallant and Rodney Delaney.  The Honor Guard during the wake and funeral was supported in whole or in part by the following Sir Knights under the leadership of SK Henry MacKay (Commander); James Bernard (Former Master), Dan Miller (Marshall 4th Degree), Louis Shea FN, Simon Hashie FN, Brian Delaney DD, James Hogan, Irving Broderick, Emile Bernard, Richard Shea, Paul Gaudet, Charles Bernard, John Handrahan and Raymond Yu.

I do ask that you continue to offer your prayerful support to our community, the DesRoches and Getson families and Tanner Gaudet, the young man who survived this tragic accident by swimming to shore and reporting the accident to first responders.

Yours in Christ

Louis Shea Grand Knight, FN
